Last February, 49-year-old Berry Williams stole several cases of beer from west Phoenix Circle-K and jumped into a getaway car as a passenger. During the police chase that ensued, Williams switched places with the driver. After a freeway chase that clocked speeds up to 112 mph, Williams left exited Interstate 10 and ran a light at 19th Avenue and Baseline where he struck the car of 27-year-old Abel Abebe, an ASU student.
