DUI Suspect Killed in Fiery Crash in MEsa

Gilbert police notified Mesa police early this morning that they were pursuing a 1989 Chevrolet truck for failure to yield and possible DUI. After Mesa police laid stop sticks to disable the truck they parked two marked police cars on Baseline Road near Ellsworth to warn other vehicles. The suspect approached the intersection without slowing, plowing into a police car, and died in the explosion.

No officers were injured.


Jury Selection Ends in Quintuple Murder

William Craig Miller is accused of one of the most brutal multiple murders in Arizona’s increasingly long history of them.

On February 26th, 2006, five people were found shot dead at Mesa’s Barrington Estate Complex near Loop 202 and Baseline Road. 34-year-old William Craig Miller is accused of killing Steven Terrance Duffy, his brother Shane Duffy, Steven’s girlfriend Tammy Lovell, and her two children, 10-year-old Jacob and 15-year-old Cassandra.

Opening statements in the case are expected to begin today or Tuesday.


Mesa Man Kills Girlfriend; Lives With Corpse For Two Months

According to Rueters, 35-year-old Erik C. Grumpelt was arrested on Monday for beating his girlfriend to death after she had admitted sleeping with other men in his bed. Police believe 39-year-old Malinda Raya has been dead in the bedroom of the Mesa apartment since May 19th. Grumpelt attempted to cover the odors with carpet powders and room fresheners.
