39-year-old Jennifer Louise Barnes was arrested Thursday for abusing her 10-year-old adopted son. Court documents allege that Barnes sodomized the boy with a toothbrush, burned his genitals, and forced dog feces into his mouth before duct-taping it closed.

Gilbert resident Erica Wellman, a caregiver at Friends for Life Animal Rescue, is planning on tying herself to a tree on Saturday to call attention to herself the plight of dogs tied to trees.
She is using the action as a way to raise funds for air conditioned dog houses for a no-kill shelter.
The Gilbert city council will consider a program, in cooperation with Arizona State University students, to convert dog waste into electricity.
The city council in Gilbert will decide next month whether to go ahead and have Arizona State University students design and create a “dog waste digester” that releases methane gas, the Arizona Republic reported.
The methane would run a street lamp first, and possibly other uses later.
Dog owners would put the remains in a biodegradable bag, drop that into the digester and then turn a crank to stir the mixture and get the process started.
