Lamborghini driver reaches 219mph on Loop 202

Published by Administrator at 6:05 pm under Metro Area News

DPS is trying to find the driver of this Lamborghini that pushed 202mph on the Loop 202 (San Tan Freeway) in east Phoenix. This is a busy stretch of expressway - you can see blurs of cars he’s passing in the video.

One of the kids interviewed by a local news channel said he was an ASU student. None of those present wanted to be named. Obviously.

The car the dude’s driving is a MurciĆ©lago LP640 (according to an aficionado’s email).

Check out the specs of the car and some interesting facts below the fold.

test

The Lamborghini Murcielago was the successor to the Diablo. It retails for more than $300K and can go 0-60mph in less than 3.4 seconds.

Its engine is mounted backwards with the transmission in front of the engine and the differential behind it. It’s four wheel drive that normally provides the rear wheels with 70% of the torque. However, when the front end or rear end loses traction, it can distribute 100% torque to either the front or back. (Probably a lifesaver at 219mph on a state freeway).

Now for the fun facts:

* For Kobe Bryant’s wife Vanessa’s 19th birthday, he bought her a Lamborghini Murcielago.
* He then found out she couldn’t drive a stick
* He had the car converted to an automatic.
* Final cost? Estimated at $400K

What are you doing with a computer?

It’s spelled Lamborghini. And it wasn’t the ASU student who owned the thing. Read the post again.
