Tohono O’odham police find nude body of woman hanging from tree
The nude body of a woman was found hanging from a tree in the San Xavier district of the Tohono O’odham reservation in Pima County Saturday afternoon. The FBI and reservation police are investigating.
Investigators believe they know the identity of the woman but are awaiting confirmation from relatives before releasing it, said Tohono O’odham Police Department Chief Richard Saunders.
The woman, possibly in her 30s, had a gunshot wound, but that does not appear to be what killed her, said Deborah McCarley, an FBI spokeswoman in Phoenix.
A passerby found the body about noon Saturday near South Mission Road and called the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which notified the Tohono O’odham Police Department. The woman’s body was suspended in the tree with wire, Saunders said, and her death is being investigated as a homicide.
