Tempe Man Jumps From Rural Rail Road Bridge
A Tempe man jumped from the Rural Railroad Bridge over Tempe Town lake around noon today.
According to witnesses the man stripped his clothes and backpack off on the south side of Tempe Town Lake. He then ran a third the length of the bridge wearing just boxer shorts and tennis shoes before jumping into approximately 14 foot of water.
The man apparently came up again, struggled briefly and then went under for good.
Witnesses on the shore and kayaks tried to help but were unable to reach the man before he slipped under the surface.
Divers recovered the body shortly after beginning the search.
