#1: My first and only trip to Gallagher's was the first I have not tipped a bartender. I bartended for more than 5 years through college and shortly thereafter and I understand that many customers don't realize how important income from tips is. I am and have always been an over-tipper. Having said that, let me tell you about my trip to Gallagher's. (Note: I have not been to been to any other of the other four Gallagher's. I walked into Gallagher's and sat at the back bar with my friend. We had already eaten and just stopped in for a drink and to catch the end of a Phoenix Suns playoff game. The bartender was a little slow to serve us considering we were the only people sitting at the bar. I ordered a Stella draft and my friend ordered a bottle of Budweiser. We started a tab. Over the course of the next hour and a half I ordered another two Stellas and she had another two Bud bottles. Once the game was over I asked our tabs which he had placed on one receipt. No problem. Until I looked at the tab. He had charged us for 6 Stellas. Still no problem. I asked him about it and he replied that the Budweisers and Stellas were the same price which surprised me because he was charging me $4 for each Stella. He tells me he rang them in as Stellas because it was easier that way. When I asked if bottles of Bud were $4 he answered replied by telling me they were actually cheaper than that but it was about the same! He then told me he could fix the tab if I really wanted him to! So he fixed the tab, we were refunded about $3, and we left the place without tipping him. It will be a long time before I go back.
